Doctors are treating the injured in relief camps. Dr. Hasna stated, “Many people are experiencing headaches and high BP due to stress. We’re providing medication and monitoring them closely.”

The worst-hit areas include Churalpara, Vellarimala, Mundakayil, and Pothukallu. The death toll has reached 153, with 98 people still missing.

Health Minister’s Accident

Kerala’s Health Minister Veena George’s vehicle met with a minor accident while en route to Wayanad. She suffered minor injuries and is being treated at Manjeri Medical College.

Rescue Operations

The Army’s 122nd Infantry Battalion is actively engaged in rescue efforts, prioritizing the evacuation of those trapped under debris. The national flag in Kerala’s Legislative Assembly has been lowered to half-mast as the state observes two days of mourning.

Weather and Climate Concerns

A senior climate scientist linked the landslides to increased temperatures in the Arabian Sea, causing intense rainfall. This, in turn, led to the landslides in Wayanad.

UN’s Condolences

UN Resident Coordinator in India, Shombi Sharp, expressed condolences to the victims and their families, highlighting the tragic loss of life.
