PTI, Wayanad: In Kerala’s Wayanad, scenes of destroyed homes, Landslides and Floods; overflowing rivers, and uprooted trees emerged after large-scale landslides struck the region’s high-altitude villages on Tuesday.
More than 100 people are feared trapped under the debris, with rescue operations underway. Reports indicate that over 20 people, including three children, have lost their lives due to the landslides.
Devastating Images of the Landslides
The picturesque villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha, known for their scenic beauty until Monday, now present a grim reality as they have been cut off from other parts due to landslides.
Vehicles swept away by floodwaters can be seen stuck in tree branches and scattered around. Swollen rivers have altered their course, now flowing through residential areas, causing further destruction.
Large boulders rolling down the hillsides are hindering rescue efforts. Despite the heavy rains, rescue workers are seen carrying bodies and the injured to ambulances.
The landslides have led to widespread uprooting of trees, and the floodwaters have devastated lush green areas.
Authorities reported that eight people, including three children, lost their lives due to landslides in Wayanad district.
According to Wayanad district authorities, four people, including a child, died in Chooralmala town. Additionally, a one-year-old child from a Nepali family perished in Thondarnad village, while the bodies of three people, including a five-year-old child, were recovered near a riverbank in Pothukal village.
