Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are honored through the Haritalika Teej festival. Observing the fast for Haritalika Teej, according to Hindu calendar is 6th of September 2024. The women who are married and unmarried girls are highly anticipating this day. It is said that those who perform this fast shall not lack joy in their marriages. In this regard, Solah Shringar (16 adornments) done by married women becomes very special on this occasion.

Every year, Haritalika Teej is celebrated on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the Bhadrapada month. The unmarried observe this fast so as to clear all marriage barriers while the married do it together with worship of Lord Shiva in order to attract happiness into their lives. To start off the puja married ladies must conduct Solah Shringar. The puja for Haritalika Teej cannot be complete without these adornments; thus we shall examine religious significance of Solah Shringar for married women on such occasions.

Solah Shringar Justification:
In Sanatan Dharma, married ladies perform Solah Shringar after marriage. These adornments are considered symbols of marital status and are believed to ensure the long life of the husband. Religion tells us about this practice. Goddess Parvati used to do Solah Shringar as a result her married life was always happy according to a mythological story.

Perfume (Ittar), Anklets (Payal), Toe Rings (Bichhiya), Ring (Angoothi), Flower Garland (Gajra), Earrings (Jhumka), Wedding Dress (Shadi ka Joda), Henna (Mehndi), Forehead Ornament (Maang Tika), Kajal (Kohl), Mangalsutra, Bangles (Choodiyan), Armlet (Baajuband), Waistband (Kamarband), Sindoor (Vermilion), Bindi.

Puja Muhurat:
The Tritiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada month will commence on 5th Sept at 12:21 PM and will end on 6th Sept at 3:21 PM. Thus Haritalika Teej fast would be observed on 6th Sep 2024. The auspicious time (Shubh Muhurat) for performing the puja is from 6:02 AM to 8:33 AM that day.

“करचरणकृतं वाक् कायजं कर्मजं वा,
श्रवण वाणंजं वा मानसंवापराधं।
विहितं अविहितं वा सर्व मेतत् क्षमस्व
जय जय करुणाब्धे श्री महादेव शम्भो ॥”

शिव नमस्कार मंत्र

“शम्भवाय च मयोभवाय च नमः
शंकराय च मयस्कराय च नमः
शिवाय च शिवतराय च।
ईशानः सर्वविध्यानाम्
ईश्वरः सर्वभूतानाम्
ब्रम्हाधिपतिमहिर्ब्रम्हणोधपतिर
ब्रम्हा शिवो मे अस्तु सदाशिवोम ॥”
