WHICH TEAMS ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE T20 WORLD CUP 2024?

This year’s competition will feature a record 20 teams. In addition to the hosts, the West Indies and the United States, the eight highest-placing teams from the 2022 edition—England, Pakistan, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Australia, and the Netherlands—have qualified automatically. Bangladesh and Afghanistan also qualified based on their positions in the men’s T20I team rankings.

The remaining teams qualified through regional qualifiers: Ireland and Scotland from Europe, Canada from the Americas, Namibia and Uganda from Africa, Nepal and Oman from Asia, and Papua New Guinea from the East Asia-Pacific.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT FOR THE T20 WORLD CUP 2024?

The 20 teams are divided into four groups of five teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage, which consists of two groups of four teams each, with each team playing the others once. The top two teams from each Super Eight group will advance to the semifinals.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A MATCH ENDS IN A TIE?

In the event of a tie, a Super Over will decide the winner. If the Super Over also ends in a tie, additional Super Overs will be played until a winner is determined.

HOW ARE MATCHES DECIDED IF THE WEATHER PLAYS SPOILSPORT?

During the group stage and Super Eight matches, at least five overs must be bowled by each team for a result to be declared in case of rain or bad weather. However, for the semifinals and final, each team must bat for a minimum of ten overs for a result to be possible.

WHAT ABOUT THE KNOCKOUT MATCHES?

Both the first semifinal and the final have reserved days and an extra 190 minutes to ensure a result can be achieved.
